What I Learned About Alcohol and Drug Abuse in High School, the Inspiration and Motivation For My Boosted Self Esteem and Self Worth, and My Commitment in My Friendships and Relationships

When I was a sophomore in high school, I registered for a class. At that age, I did not understand that alcohol abuse in truth was a sub classification of . While taking this class and learning more about drug and alcohol abuse and especially about alcohol side effects, I read a lot about Alcoholic Anonymous, their meetings, how their programs have twelve steps, and how successful the Alcoholics Anonymous recovery program has been for people all through the world. I also learned a lot about alcohol rehabilitation and the different alcohol rehab clinics that are normally available to people who engage in hazardous drinking.

Detrimental Results That are Linked to Alcohol Addiction and Alcohol Abuse

Some of the detrimental end results associated with and alcohol abuse that I learned about in this class undeniably alarmed me. The ruined lives and frequent serious issues experienced by most alcohol addicted individuals made me feel like I never wanted to drink alcohol when I became old enough. Stated differently, I did not want to face the disaster and destruction that alcohol addicted individuals almost always go through.

Let this sink in for a moment. What fifteen-year-old individual wants to face premature death due to his or her drinking behavior? What teenager wants to become so out-of-control regarding his or her drinking that ingesting alcohol becomes the object of one’s life? What teenager wants to go to one of the local alcoholic rehabilitation centers to deal with alcohol-related difficulties before he or she becomes twenty-one?

What adolescent wants to experience alcohol withdrawal symptoms when he or she tries to stop drinking? Why would a person engage in drinking to such an extent that it would cause problems in every area of his or her life? Drinking later in life after an individual has a career, a family, and develops personal responsibilities makes sense. But why would a teenager want to sacrifice his or her education, employment, finances, and for a life that centers on excessive drinking?

These issues were so significant that I discussed some of them in class during the school year. What was downright unbelievable to me was the number of students who basically didn’t care about the damaging results of excessive drinking that I talked about. It was almost as if they couldn’t be troubled with reality and how these results can demolish their lives. For the first time in my life I started to understand a saying that my grandfather used to say to me all through my younger years: you can lead a horse to water but you can’t force it to drink.

It’s Important, Beneficial, and Liberating to Remove Yourself From the Unhealthy and Debilitating Consequences of Drug and Alcohol Abuse

And even at my young age, I also began to understand how beneficial, enlivening, and important it is in life to keep yourself from the unhealthy and destructive results of alcohol and . And realizing this also led to some problems, , and issues in the friendships and I established in high school.

A Young Woman’s Irresponsible Drinking Leads To a DWI, Mental Health Concerns, Depression, Time Locked Up In Jail, and Relationship Problems

Jesse had a very difficult time keeping a job. If truth be told, due to her laziness and lack of drive, she was out of a job far more often than she was in a state of employment. And when she did land a job, she had a particularly hard time getting to work in a timely manner, she often got less than positive performance evaluations, and she called off sick so frequently that she typically got fired four or five weeks after she started working. To no one’s surprise, one of the results of Jesse’s less than optimal work track record was the fact that she was virtually penniless from day-to-day.

Despite Jesse’s less than stellar work track record and financial lack of attention, on the other hand, somehow she made it a point to drink in a hazardous and abusive manner most of the time.  Not surprisingly, her abusive and excessive drinking also resulted in a host of relationship issues over the years.

Based on her hazardous and excessive drinking, it came as no big surprise when Jesse received a second DWI. When she went to court, the judge told Jesse that her alcohol-related behavior was irresponsible and, as a consequence, he was going to sentence Jesse to serve seven months behind bars.

Time In Jail To Think About The Damaging Consequences of Abusive Drinking

During her time while locked up in jail, Jesse was expected to learn more about alcohol facts, about the negative consequences of irresponsible drinking, and she was required to get . The magistrate stressed the fact that unless Jesse receives professional alcohol counseling and discovers how to live an alcohol-free life, she will most probably be spending a lot more time in jail.

Jesse said that she understood what the magistrate was proclaiming but she still believed that placement in the county jail was not the right decision. The magistrate saw things in an entirely different way and stated that it was his job to keep alcoholics off the streets who drive under the influence and who get arrested for a DWI. To give credibility to this assertion, the magistrate quoted some long-standing, highly researched alcohol statistics that underscored some of the negative outcomes that are related to hazardous and irresponsible drinking.

Although Jesse comprehended that she drank irresponsibly, she never thought that she was alcohol dependent. So it was a real shocker when Jesse began experiencing symptoms of alcohol withdrawal just about four hours after going to jail.

To manage her alcohol withdrawals in a safe and sound manner, Jesse was transferred to a rehab facility for alcohol detox and then returned to the city jail. While locked up in the local jail Jesse was given a mental assessment for her depression and was given alcohol rehabilitation but due to the fact that she received this counseling as something that was imposed upon her, she did not take ownership of her hazardous and excessive drinking.

When her time behind bars was finished, the judge without vacillation announced to Jesse that she would be under rigorous surveillance and would be mandated to take periodic blood alcohol tests.

Jessie’s Abusive Drinking Stops Her From Living in a Responsible and Productive Manner

After hearing how Jesse failed to take ownership of her drinking problem and how she unwillingly followed the rehab modus operandi while in the municipal jail, the judge knew that it was essentially a matter of time before he would be seeing Jesse once again in court about her hazardous drinking behavior. As the magistrate thought about Jesse’s circumstance, he couldn’t help but think about how some people never use common sense and discover how to live in an accountable and productive manner.
