Christmas Decorations - 5 Ideas For Family Fun
It’s the time of year when we begin to think about Christmas decorations, and with those thoughts, come Christmas decorating plans. We do not want to wait until Thanksgiving or even Halloween before we begin to make our plans on how we want to decorate.
1. Safety should always be the first thing on your mind. Make sure you check all the labels to make certain the decorations are safe for children and pets. We know not to put ladders next to wires when putting up outdoor lights, but we sometimes don’t think to be as careful when doing our inside decorations. Make sure any decoration with a choking hazard or any other safety concern is put up out of the reach of small children and even your pets. On all electrical items, check that the cord has the UL label. It needs to be on both the cord and the packaging.
2. Stick with a theme when choosing Christmas decor. If you choose an old fashion Christmas theme for your home, choose a timeframe and find decorations that suit the time you have chosen. There are many wonderful old fashion Christmas decoration ideas available to purchase on the internet.
3. Different rooms can have different themes or different traditions or can include other cultural items. You don’t have to use only one theme though the whole house. Let your children help with choosing the theme for some rooms if they ask to be involved. Get your children to choose a theme of their own for a room.
4. Choose a room and use Christmas decorations from different cultures. We are all familiar with the Russian egg Christmas decoration. As you open the egg you discover a smaller, nearly identical egg, and then another and another. Do some research, and let the festivities include learning about how other cultures prepare and celebrate Christmas.
5. Have a small tree that is just for the purpose of letting your children decorate however they choose, with handmade decorations or with favorite sports team or action figures. The choices are unlimited.
Christmas is more than presents. It is also an opportunity to celebrate and learn. Christmas decorations can include lessons for your family about your culture of origin, the traditions that shaped your beliefs, and provide an opportunity to allow the whole family to participate and join in the festivities involved in decorating.
