Ideas For Colonial Style Costumes
It’s that time of year again: time to prepare for Halloween and think about what costume to wear. Scary and bizarre costumes are traditionally associated with Halloween. But you don’t have to be limited to that. There is a great variety to choose from. However, there are other types of costumes that are not only great for Halloween but can be worn for other events throughout the year. Historical costumes never go out of fashion because they are in the past and can always be enjoyed.
There are so many great costumes available that depict different times in history, for example ancient Egypt, Rome, medieval times, Victorian times, 1920’s etc. But why not choose a costume out of our own American history?
Here are some of the best costumes from our own history. They are perfect for historical reenactments and celebrations. Children can use them in school plays and parades.
American Indian Costumes
Native American indians were the original inhabitants of North America. Why not honor them by choosing one of their costumes to wear? A man can be a fearless warrior. A woman can also be a warrior or she can be a sexy indian maiden. A Pocohontas costume is also popular for women or girls. She usually has a suede style dress with fringing and sometimes beading. She has a beaded headpiece with a feather at the back. For the Indian braves, you can also wear a fringed suede style outfit with a feathered headpiece, moccasins and of course, a tomahawk.
Colonial Costumes
There are so many ideas in this category from pilgrim costumes as well as well-known characters such as George Washington, Martha Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Benjamin Franklin and Betsy Ross. Other interesting costumes to wear are ones worn during the Revolutionary war such as a British Redcoat uniform, patriot soldier costumes complete with tricorn hat and toy rifle.
If you’re feeling creative, you could make your own costume after doing a bit of research. If you’re not handy with a needle and thread, you can easily find a costume online or from a costume shop.
