A room that is one of the most frequently remodeled in the home is the kitchen. For one thing, it is often one that is most used. And, unlike some other rooms, function is equally if not more important than aesthetics.

One improvement that is commonly made to kitchens is adding a breakfast bar with seats such as kitchen bar stools. These types of extensions are great when you just want a quick meal. If your only other choice is a dining room than these are particularly welcome as a less formal option.

In some cases, there may not be room in the kitchen for a table and chairs. The counter extension with some wooden bar stools makes the perfect way to give you the less formal option but taking up less space than a table would. It is also a nice spot to sit and chat with the cook while he or she is preparing a meal.

Many times, people are remodeling to make their kitchen space more convenient to use. Often, this centers around getting more counter space and being able to use it more efficiently for preparing food. One way to do this is to purchase appliances that are mounted under cabinets.

Another option is using smaller versions of appliances, especially ones that you do not use a lot. A kitchen hand mixer, for example, can be put away in a drawer instead of being left on the counter as is often done with the larger ones. You might want a standard mixer for bigger jobs but this can be stored away while the hand one can be kept in a more convenient spot for more frequent use.

A butcher block that is free standing can be really convenient if you have the space. By using it for chopping, cutting and slicing, you can use the counters for other kinds of food prep. Just be certain to clean them well after every time they are used so that there will be no bacteria. Butcher blocks can also be used as a place to allow dishes to cool.

A spice drawer is another really convenient addition to a kitchen. These drawers are specially made for spice jars so that you can see what you have quite easily, just be pulling the drawer out. This will also free up a shelf for other uses.

Of course, these are just a few changes to consider making to your kitchen. However, they should help to make it a more convenient place to work and to enjoy.
