Five Tips For Positive Parenting
Positive parenting can be difficult. Your child may have tantrums, resist bedtime, be a bully, or not be as smart as all the other kids you know, so what can you do to be a more positive parent? Consider the following positive parenting suggestions:
Â
Positive parenting tip one: Give time!
Hands down the best thing you can do for your child is to spend good, quality time with them. Spend time doing fun things, and hard things. Spend time talking to, listening to, and learning with your child. The more time you spend, the better. Make sure they have your full attention. This does not mean attach yourself to their side, but it does mean that you should never let a day go by that you have not taken the time to spend one on one time with each of your kids.
Positive parenting tip two: Be fun!
Help your kids play and learn that family can be fun. Having fun with your children will help you build a solid rapport with them. Quality time doing fun things creates bonds, memories, and respect for one another. During fun times you learn how to converse and share, and in doing so you open up to your child and them to you. This gives them the security to know that if they should ever feel the need to talk to you about a problem, they can.
Positive parenting tip three: Focus on health.
Positive parenting is not just about having a good relationship with your child, but also on raising a healthy, happy child. As a parent try to keep health in mind when making choices. Feed your child healthy foods. Create routines for bedtime that include teeth brushing. When you spend time together during the day do not forget things like exercise. Even when you want to be the “cool†parent, get your kids to bed on time so that they get the rest they need.

Positive parenting tip four: Take care of you too.
You can’t be a good parent that has happy, healthy kids if you are not happy and healthy yourself. In the hubbub of trying to get your kids to and from their various activities, fed, and dressed don’t forget to take some YOU time. Try to eat well. Make sure you have some fun. Try to take a break from your responsibilities and pamper yourself every once and a while.
Â
Positive parenting tip five: Learning help.
Your children’s self worth is often tied to their intelligence. If they feel dumb, or like they can’t succeed in school, they will find their confidence drop in other areas as well. Put your children in preschools, read to them daily, teach them to read and write early on, give them help or find them help when they struggle with a subject. When your child feels smart they feel better about themselves and are better off because of it.
