If they were casual drinkers, this wouldn’t be a big deal. Since they drink in an irresponsible manner, however, they are starting to take note of some clear-cut alcohol-related issues in their lives.
For example, just three days ago Jerry received a third DWI and has been showing up late for work because of alcohol-related health issues. Not unlike Jerry’s situation, Sarah has been feeling down in the dumps about things in her life and to deal with this, she has been drinking more frequently than any time in the past eleven months. Moreover, Sarah has been experiencing quite a few throbbing migraine headaches and suffering from awful hangovers due to her drinking. Lastly, Sarah has been feeling notably less active when she awakens in the morning, she has been getting to work late every Monday, and she has been getting some unhelpful criticism from her relatives, family members, friends, and coworkers about her heavy drinking.

With thoughts of the television documentary still running through her mind, Sarah asked Jerry if some of the alcohol dependency signs they have been displaying could be a signal that they are alcoholic or perhaps becoming alcoholic. When Jerry and Sarah went to bed that night, they decided that the next afternoon, Jerry would call and make an appointment for both of them at the alcohol abuse treatment center located just East of the State Capital. After they made a promise to one another that they would do whatever it takes to defeat the drinking difficulties that had cropped up in their lives, they in point of fact had the most refreshing night’s sleep they could bring to mind in the last seven weeks.
Just before she fell asleep, Sarah turned to Jerry and stated how simple it is to decrease one’s trepidation and in point of fact experience some serenity by coming to grips with one’s problems with personal integrity and deciding to do something constructive about them.
