Using the Acne Diet to Clear Up Breakouts
Many people could benefit from an acne diet. Hasn’t everybody heard that chocolate will give you pimples? Almost all of us have. So it doesn’t seem so crazy that by watching what you eat could prevent a break out.
However, an acne diet can be hard to create for a large number of people. It is highly personal and based on your body’s unique responses to food. There are guidelines, but your progress will largely be trial and error. Check your skin thoroughly every day. Write down all changes. You could keep a photo journal. When your skin clears, continue on the diet you were on at the time.
Here are a few instructions to help get you started on an acne diet:
* 1. Increase your protein intake - Some dermatologists believe that protein is associated with clearer skin. They believe this because protein has an enzyme in it that limits oil production. Oily skin has always been susceptible to breakouts.
* Stay away from carbohydrates. - You don’t have to completely cut carbs out. But you should try to limit your intake so that they are about 40 percent of your diet. This is because carbohydrates have compounds in them that can stimulate oil production. This is the reason that junk food has the reputation that it causes acne. In reality, junk food is high in carbs.
* 3. Drink green tea - Drinking the real stuff is the best. The best type of green tea is the kind that you brew. However, if you can’t stand the stuff, then natural green tea drinks will do. Green tea will limit the creation of androgen. Androgen is a hormone that can cause breakouts.
* 4. Limit your salt intake - Iodine is almost always located within salt. This is the reason we usually call table salt “iodized salt.” Iodine can be one of the biggest inflammatory agents in people with acne.
You must watch your diet and what you put on your face. If you have acne you are already aware of what ingredients are in your facial products. Use oil free moisturizers and organic skin care products. These are least likely to cause a breakout. If you wear makeup you may want to consider switching over to mineral makeup. Dermatologists are under the belief that mineral makeup can fully help alleviate your acne problems while enhancing the results of your acne diet.
