Tights are traditionally thought of as a garment for ladies, unless medically prescribed. However, tights and pantyhose specifically designed for gentlemen is becoming a much more common occurrence. So does this mean that more men are wearing tights and if so why would they want to?

It may seem strange, but tights were traditionally developed for men, who several centuries ago particularly the nobility, wore silk or fine wool versions of tights as a practical garment for horse riding. They even developed into an old worlde fashion statement, with men often wearing them to show off their legs.

However since those times have passed, ladies have become the major wearer of tights and other forms of pantyhose. It was once considered unusual for men to wear tights, but recently it’s becoming more and more acceptable to do so.

Tights used for horse riding are still worn by men and a number of other athletic type sports uses makes it acceptable for gents to wear tights. Footless pantyhose are often seen in cycling, running, wrestling etc, with sports scientists even claiming that wearing tights during sport can reduce muscle strain and injuries.

Support tights are used by blokes just as much as women and usually for the same reasons. They exert extra pressure on the legs to help ease the pain often associated with varicose veins and / or  circulation problems, and can even help stop the problems from occurring in the first instance. Especially when travelling by aeroplane people wish to choose to wear support tights to combat the issue.

In the modern world more and more men choose to wear them for fashion reasons as well as for sporting or medical reasons. With the coming of age of the metrosexual man, who are very comfortable with their sexuality and like to take care of themselves, why shouldn’t they wear tights?

Often they can be more comfortable than thick socks, especially in summer, and is far better than going bare-foot. Just as true in winter pantyhose can be worn under trousers as an extra layer of insulation against the cold, just as ladies do.

Men can now find tights (or pantyhose as they called elsewhere in the world) specifically developed for their shape and size. Usually being taller and more muscular than ladies, manufacturers realised that men would need tights of different physical specifications, so developed them to accommodate the growing demand around the globe.

So I think , yes, more and more men are wearing tights than ever.
